Eröffnung mit Grußworten von Laura von Schubert (Stellvertretende Vorsitzende, Bielefelder Kunstverein) und Walter Neuling (Kulturdezernent der Bezirksregierung Detmold) sowie einer Einführung von Thomas Thiel (Bielefelder Kunstverein).

Flucht und Vertreibung scheinen unsere Gegenwart wie kein anderes Thema zu bestimmen. In den Medien wird häufig von einer Flüchtlings- und Migrationskrise berichtet. Dabei haben wir es mit keinem vorübergehenden Ereignis zu tun, denn ein permanenter Ausnahmezustand und die ungewisse Situation von Flüchtlingen sind inzwischen die Regel. Migration ist zum Seismographen unserer Zeit und unserem Selbstverständnis in Europa geworden. Vor diesem gesellschaftspolitischen Hintergrund und aus dem Blickwinkel der zeitgenössischen Kunst beschäftigt sich die Ausstellung mit den kulturellen Auswirkungen von Flucht, Vertreibung und Asyl. Migration and displacement seem to mark our times like no other topic. The media frequently carry reports of a refugee and migration crisis. In all this, we are not dealing with a transitory event, as the permanent state of exception and the uncertain situation of refugees has meanwhile become the rule. Migration has become the seismograph for our times. The exhibition takes this social-political background and the perspective of contemporary art to engage with the cultural effects of migration, displacement and asylum.
